Coaches Corner:
  • Great show at the meet against Windsong!
I am proud of our team's performance and the great effort put in all the swims. In reviewing the meet results I noticed that the Killer Whales placed first, second or third in almost EVERY individual event! That is amazing Good job Killer Whales.

Only one meet to go! Can you believe how fast this season has passed? I hope everyone has learned, improved and had a lot of fun this year. We need to work hard this week to ensure our place at divisionals. We can still improve our times for the last meet. In fact, you can still qualify for invitationals at divisionals. SO, EVERYONE COME TO PRACTICE READY TO LISTEN AND LEARN AND IMPROVE!

Also, you need to keep track of results postings and let me know IMMEDIATELY if there is a discrepency in your time placement. Coach Tiffany and I will time as many of our swimmers as possible and try to keep track of your placement so that if there are any errors we can protest. But, I cannot be at the postings all day checking this. Let me know if there are any problems. (Sometimes for example a time gets entered wrong or put with the wrong name). PLEASE ASK THE SCRIBE YOUR TIME and MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON THE SHEET AS YOU EXIT THE POOL! It is OK to come by us and tell us your time, but then return immediately to your team area. LET'S SWIM SMART, TOUGH AND YOUR PERSONAL BEST THIS WEEKEND!

  • Another victory under our belt!
What a close and exciting meet against Memorial NW! A special thanks to the "team players" who swam events that they didn't particularly want to: Kyle Sparrow, Shane Kent, Megan Jordan. There were probably others who weren't quite as vocal about it and I thank you too! I am more proud of those who try new events and get disqualified than of those who play it safe all year and never try anything new. It's not the end of the world to get disqualified. Just let me know what happened and we will work on it before the next meet!
Thanks also for Laura Holan for welcoming our new team member and helping Megan with her swimming! Thank you Alex and Taylor for always helping me with the younger kids, and coming to practice so willing to work and learn! I will have a special something for these five during practice this week. I'm no fool though! This is the first and last time I will offer treats for this reason! So don't come complain thinking you'll swim the event and get a treat for it! I'll have a different criteria next week!

Please note that we have only two dual meets remaining. This means that if you haven't swam each event at least once (not including time trials), now is the time to sign up for that event. We like to have an official time for everyone on each event. Just ask Megan Jordan who didn't want to swim back stroke. She dropped 17 seconds from her seed time!!!
Great job on this meet. Next week is another tough one. I will need every swimmer at the meet doing their best!

  • Victory over Terra Nova
What a great victory over Terranova last Saturday, (May 18th). We swam some very fast times. I'm very proud of all of the swimmers who braved the cool temperatures to help in our victory. Remember, if there is any reason you will be late, leave early, or not attend a meet, we need to know. It is very difficult for the clerks, ready bench personnel, and coaches, if we do not know that you will miss an event or relay. The three ways to give proper notification before a meet: Call Gayla Boss at 281-320-8882; record it in the Meet Entry book at practice; or write a note in Coach Sherri's notebook. If you leave a meet before you swim all of your events, you must notify the Clerk of Course.
  • Communicating with Coach Sherri
Due to safety concerns during practice, there are two ways to address your questions to Coach Sherri. The first way is to write a note in the message book that will be at every practice. Be sure to leave your name and phone number along with your question. Also, please be sure to leave a message in the book if you know you are going to miss practice. The second way to ask question is by email. Her email address is SWS4fun@sbcglobal.net. By using these simple means of communication, Coach Sherri's full attention to the swimmers while on deck. Thanks in advance for your cooperation. :)
  • Swim Meet Sign Up Procedures
I have designed a procedure that has helped reduce "scratches" on the day of the meet. If we have a lot of "no-shows" it causes a lot of "scratches" on Saturday mornings. I prefer to warm up the swimmers rather than sitting at the computer resetting the meet. Therefore, I will have a signup sheet for each meet that week during practice, this will be available approximately 10 days prior to the meet in question. All swimmers must sign up for swim meets. Swimmers 12 and younger must have a parents signature next to their child's name and events they wish to swim. If you know you are going to miss the meet, please write it down. Remember, each child may swim three individual events and two relays.
